Types of Handlebars

The most common type of road bike handlebars are called drop handlebars, which come in two different variations. On these type of handlebars, the middle is the highest part and the rest of the bar bends and curves downward. The two most common types of drop handlebars are the Maes and Randonneur styles. The difference between the two is that the Randonneur style allow the rider to ride in a more upright position because of the bends in the tubing, whereas the Maes works better with the rider in a tighter bent position. A third option for drop handlebars are Anatomic handlebars which have straight sections that are designed for the hands to hold onto, located just below the brake levers.

Whichever type of handlebar you choose, buying the right type for both your comfort and riding style should be a consideration.
