Road Bike Derailleurs for Sale, Shimano, Campagnolo, Sram
A derailleur is an integral part of a road bike, containing sprockets that allow the rider to have varying gears that can be changed based on speed and terrain. On a bicycle the derailleur is the system that connects the chain and gears to a lever on the handlebars. When the rider moves the lever forward or backward, the chain is loosened and allowed to move onto a different gear.
The derailleur has both a front and rear component, each with its own job. The front derailleur moves the chain from side to side, helping to loosen the chain for a short time allowing the rear derailleur to move the chain onto a different sprocket. A derailleur is somewhat like an automobile transmission, allowing the rider to change gears from a lower or higher number based on the terrain and speed of the rider. More Information About Road Bike Derailleurs
In cycling, shifting gear quickly and smoothly is important to maintain optimal speed and power. Cheap bikes may contain inferior derailleurs which can make for a frustrating time of shifting gears when the bike is in motion. With such an important task, buying the cheapest derailleur may not be your best option. Though it may be tempting to buy a $20 model, spending more money on a high quality derailleur will certainly be an investment you will not regret.
