Road Bike Brakes for Sale

Just like an automobile, a braking system that is working properly is imperative to the safe operation of a road bike. For cyclists that often speed down the road, a braking system that not only works, but one that works well is important to maintain safety while riding. Stopping quickly and safely requires that brakes are of good quality design and are in excellent condition to avoid a situation that could be quite dangerous while out on the road.

Road bikes most commonly use a simple Rim brake otherwise known as caliper brakes. Their simple design allows the rider to pull a lever on the handlebars which in turn pull a cable. When the cable is tightened, it pulls two calipers that are attached to the frame of the bike and squeezed them around the rim, causing it to stop. (Continue reading below...)

Over time brake pads wear out and need to be replaced to ensure the safe operation of the bike. A downfall of this system is the fact that they do not work well in wet weather and they run the risk of causing the rim to overheat. On a long downhill run when a rider might be riding the brake to control speed, the rims become very hot and can cause structural issues in the rim over long periods of time.

Your best defense against this happening is to purchase a good quality road bike braking system, which includes the brake components themselves as well as the brake cable and the handlebar levers.
