Cervelo Bikes, Road Bikes and Frames, New and Used Bicycles

Cervelo Cycles first came into being as the brain child of two engineers - Gerard Vroomen and Phil White - in 1995. These two decided to bring their recent work on faster time trial bicycles to the market. They'd already been working in bicycle design since the mid 1980s, and had worked on designing the fastest possible time trial bike for a top ranking Italian professional cyclist. After all, traditional bikes using off the shelf frame sets may work well enough, but innovative, leading edge designs take more, especially with a time and aerodynamics focus. This takes a real expert and some from scratch design. More about Cervelo Bicycles below...

Cervelo Cycles - A Top Triathlon Company

The company started this bike design from the ground up, evaluating all the models on the market and setting a tough goal for the bike itself. The goal was a ride that was aerodynamically unbeatable without sacrificing in the areas of stiffness and weight. The original bike wasn't made with attention to marketability, and was meant to be a one off design, made for this specific rider. The result was amazing - a truly radical bike that changed the rules in almost all areas. It was great at handling, had the right stiffness, was very aerodynamic, and was comfortable to ride, too.

Almost everyone who saw this new bike was highly enthusiastic. People everywhere wanted to know where they could get one of their own. However, this didn't apply to absolutely everyone. The sponsor of the rider's bike team wasn't so interested in parting with traditional designs, and didn't care for it. There was only one conclusion. If riders both pro and amateur liked the design but bike companies didn't, the only option was to start up a new company. That's what turned out to be Cervelo.

Over the next few months, the designs were overhauled, the business was built, and the market was studied. Cervelo had its first bike show in early 1996, with two models. Withing two years, the company's cycles had won time trial nationals in Canada and Germany, been part of the the Triathlon and Cycling World's competition, and won several triathlons, as well as racing in the Atlanta Olympic Time Trial.

Of course, Cervelo has come a long way now - it's the only bike manufacturer with its own professional cycling team at the highest levels. However, despite the fact that they're large for a high end bike company, they're still a lot smaller than many of the other companies that showcase their bikes on the professional circuit. Competing with those companies for team partnerships is still tough, but the quality of the product shows through, and teams still choose Cervelo.

This is a company made up of people who love cycling and aren't afraid to question the status quo. It currently employs eight engineers, but the focus is still the same - it's just the rate of progress and development that has changed. Things are a lot faster now at Cervelo. The basic mission remains helping customers win races. With Team CSC ranked number one and the Cervelo P3 the best triathlon bike model in the history of the Ironman (with more than thirty victories), this mission is being realized.

Cervelo remains the world's biggest maker of triathlon and time trial bikes, with an incredible record. At the Beijing Olympics, the company went on to win three gold medals, five silver, and two bronze medals, and its bikes were ridden by more than forty athletes. Those who want the best in road racing bikes choose Cervelo.
