Bianchi Bicycles Have Come A Long Way

The Bianchi company was founded by Edoardo Bianchi in 1885. Located on Via Nirone in Milan, Italy, this shop grew into one of the most respected bicycle companies in the world. The company includes the main name brand and subsidaries like Chiorda, Puch, Gitane and Legnano - all are part of the Cycleurope Group, a Swedish company of Grimaldi Industri AB.

The lines manufactured by Bianchi include road bikes, track, mountain and cruiser bikes, as well as their well known racing bicycles. Built by the company's famous race department factory (Reparto Corse), located in Treviglio, these bikes are usually equipped with Campagnolo parts and are known for their high performance.

Riders of Bianchi bicycles have won many victories in the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France, with famous riders includeing Felice Gimondi and Fausto Coppi, Danilo Di Luca, Marco Pantani, Jan Ullrich, Moreno Argentin and Mario Cipollini. Until 2007, Biancho also co-sponsored Liquiga, the UCI ProTour Team.

You'll know a Bianchi bicycle because of its looks and color. Traditionally, these machines are painted a highly recognizable color, called Bianchi green or Celeste. This light torquoise shade is known around the world as a signifier that the bicycle is made by Bianchi, and there are a number of myths about where it came from.

Some say the Queen of Italy (for whom the company's founder once made a bicycle) had eyes this color. Others attribute the color to the mixing of many colors of surplus military paint, while other people say that it's the color of the sky in Milan. No one really knows why Bianchi bicycles are this distinctive color or where it comes from, but it really helps them stand out from the rest. Not all bicycles from Bianchi have been painted this recognizable color, but many still are.

The current Bianchi line includes a number of different choices for prospective riders. There are racers, leisure and sport bicycles. Buyers in the US should remember that the ones available from Bianchi USA aren't the same as those offered elsewhere in the world, and that

Bianchi's international offerings will probably be unavailable in their home country. However, the bikes available in the US still hold up to the Bianchi standard of quality, particularly the Reparto Corse line, which is still made in the Italian factory which produces all other racing bikes from Bianchi.
